NewsSkill Share Training... FEMINIST SUPPORT WORK WITH WOMEN WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED SEXUAL VIOLENCE. BRISSC regularly holds a three day training workshop for women and workers who are interested in building their skills in support, working from a feminist framework and working with women who have experienced sexual violence. The training focuses on both theory and skill building with opportunities for practice within the group, small groups and pairs. WOMENS GROUP A fortnightly drop in group for women who have experienced sexual violence commenced on 31st August 2009. The group provides a supportive space for survivors to share stories and learn new skills to address the silence and effects of violence. During the last half of 2009 the group explored digital storytelling as a form of expression for survivors. This group is now taking a break until the new year. SUPPORT GROUPS BRISSC regularly runs support groups for survivors of sexual violence. BRISSC support groups provide opportunities for; - Being supported and listened to, believed and understood. - Listening and learning from other women who are survivors of sexual violence - Exploring thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and various topics chosen by the group. - Participating in creative processes and other facilitated activities. - Opportunities to share aspects of your story, strengths and survival strategies with other women. BRISSC support groups are free and food and childcare are provided.
